This recipe does take a bit of prep work, but the end result is completely worth it. You can serve this as an appetizer or party favor at a pot luck, or have it on the side with your favorite pasta dish. You can even stuff it with some deli meats for a nice tailgate snack.
Makes 1 loaf
12” Italian Bread Loaf
1 stick Butter
2T Olive Oil
3 Garlic Cloves
1T Dijon Mustard
6oz. Cheddar Cheese
6oz. Jack Cheese
Preheat oven to 350°.
Shred cheddar and jack cheeses if not already shredded.
Fine dice garlic, onion, and parsley.
Mix the melted butter, oil, onion, garlic, mustard, and parsley in a bowl. Mix well.
Make deep diagonal cuts into your loaf without cutting all the way through the bottom.
Pour the butter mixture carefully into the cuts and pour over the top of the bread.
Fill cuts with the grated cheese.
Wrap the loaf with foil, sealing the sides completely and bake for about 15 minutes.
Remove loaf from the oven and unwrap.
Bake uncovered for another 7 minutes, until the cheese is melted and gooey.
Tear and eat.
You can also stuff the cuts in the bread with some salami, pepperoni, bacon, or ham.
